upgrade and downgrade

Well…… I think the reason may be:

If we say “shut down” to human beings, that'll downgrade human and on the other hand, if we say “shut up” to computers, that'll upgrade computer.

So, next time if you want to upgrade your computer, say “shut up!” to it.
